Malin Akerman attends the 2013 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California in a vintage Victor Costa dress paired with Christian Louboutin sandals and Neil Lane jewelry. This vintage dress is so modern, it is almost futuristic, and definitely fabulous!

Ever wonder where designers get their inspiration? From the past of course. Like this beautiful Alexander McQueen dress that Kate Hudson wore to the 2013 Golden Globes. It looks just like the vintage dress below that we have in our showroom. The beaded neck detail, and the gold ornaments at the waist (except on ours it is in the back), the train. The modern day version is a bit sexier with a more revealing neckline, but otherwise, the two dresses look almost identical! Thank goodness fashion designs aren’t copywrited, or Mr. McQueen might be in trouble!

Julianna Margulies looked like old Hollywood glamour in a vintage black column gown at the 2013 Producers Guild Awards. In an era where more is not enough, and celebrities are piling on jewels, and accessories, with excessively embellished dresses, we commend Julianna Margulies for making a statement in this minimal chic look.
Here are a few vintage black gowns to make you look like a Hollywood bombshell:

We love the nonchalant elegance Marion Cotillard displays on the red carpet. How does she do it?
1. She wears a dress that fits. It isn’t too snug, scrunching up all her assets. It isn’t too tiny, publicly displaying all her assets. It’s just right. It drapes her body beautifully so she can be relaxed and confident, not fidgety and constantly tugging and adjusting.
2. She wears a dress that is the appropriate length so she doesn’t have to worry about falling on her face.
3. She wears a purse that keeps her hands free so she can be gentile and graceful. It is amazing how this simple cross body bag can make such a big difference in the attitude this A list actress projects at such a high profile event.
Frieda Pinto certainly looked minimal chic in a vintage Valentino red strapless floor sweeping dress with ruffled hem at the Green Carpet Challenge. We at The Vintage Fashionistas thought the dress certainly was chic, but the look as a whole was a little too minimal for our taste. Frieda needed some jewelry, like statement earrings, or a bold necklace to add some pizzaz and sparkle to the red carpet look.
We do think it was very appropriate that Ms. Pinto chose vintage for The Green Carpet Challenge, which is an initiative by Livia Firth and British journalist Lucy Siegle which pairs glamour and ethics to increase the awareness of sustainable style at the world’s most high profile red carpet events.

Another vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress makes a red carpet appearance, this time on Jessica Chastain at the premiere of Madagascar 3.
What do you think? Love it or hate it? Our thoughts are that while we love YSL and we love it when celebrities chose to wear vintage at high profile events, we didn’t love this dress on this actress at this event. Here’s why. Jessica Chastain would have looked better in a colorful dress. Or, she could have still worn this classic vintage Yves Saint Laurent dress and added some excitement with bright accessories.
Black dresses don’t photograph well, so I am sure in person, this vintage YSL dress has some stunning details, but in pictures it just looks like a run of the mill boring strapless black dress. She’s at a premier, of course she is going to be photographed! Jessica should have thought of that, or at least her stylist should have!
